Breast Center of New England performs 2D/3D mammograms (3D is known in the medical world as “tomosynthesis”) with state-of-the art GE machines built with comfort in mind. Screening mammograms — annual exams for women without new breast problems — and diagnostic mammograms — problem-solving exams frequently used in conjunction with ultrasound — can both be read while you wait, if Dr. Lizer is available.

All screening mammograms — and most diagnostic mammograms — are read by Dr. Lizer with the additional benefit of Screenpoint Transpara AI. In published results from a randomized controlled trial, using Transpara AI led to a 29% increase in cancer detection. A 2025 Lancet study found that having a mammogram read by a radiologist plus Transpara AI was comparable to having two radiologists read each mammogram. Transpara AI was developed in the Netherlands and is now widely used throughout Europe and in an increasing number of academic medical centers in the US.
